Our Felon in Chief was convicted for lying about his assets in order to obtain better rates from banks. Basically, mortgage fraud. By our Felon in Chief's standard, he should resign.
Every single Trump minion, congressional and media collaborator -- and for that matter, voter -- should be doxed so they feel some of the vulnerability we do.
Yikes! I sound like a merciless Bolshevik! Shouldn't I be calmly waiting for these people to snap out of it and play fair at the midterms? Yeah, sure, that'll work.
What I'm waiting for in the Lisa Cook matter is some facts. Were both mortgages applied for at the same time? Mortgage applicants have to list and detail all properties they own or have an equitable interest in. If an applicant owns more than one, the next question is which one is the primary residence. But any multiple properties should be in every application as a schedule of assets
Now, suppose I buy a home and take out a mortgage on it, declaring and using it as a primary residence. I get a great job offer in a distant city and, feeling financially comfortable, decide to take the offer and move while keeping the first mortgaged house as a rental and buying a second one with a new mortgage where my new job is.
House 1 was my primary when I mortgaged it. That loan was probably sold or packaged into a derivative not long after it closed, and I never missed a payment, ignored taxes or insurance, or did anything else to jeopardize the lender's interest (or that of whoever holds the note now).
House 2 is my new primary, because I moved to the new job. So if I state as much on my application, that's not fraud. This could happen in a matter of months. The mortgage on House 1 is just a stable amortizing debt, and my equity in it is an asset. The rental income is just that, income.
One hypothetical situation in which declaring a primary residence isn't fraudulent even though you recently declared a different one on a previous application. I don't know if something like that happened here, but the Trumpies are long on conclusionary accusations and short on facts.
I have a friend who owns half a dozen homes in four states, all acquired when she lived there and kept as rentals when she moved on, so my hypothetical is not unusual. In fact, it's a time-honored way to accumulate equity by using your tenants' rent payments.
Let's see some facts. I have trouble believing that a state attorney general, a US Senator, and anyone qualified to become a Fed governor would knowingly fudge a mortgage application to save a couple of interest points...
Important information, so thank you. I believe that Mr. Krugman’s point is what matters is how Trump and his fellow thugs are deliberately misusing the law to stifle criticism and threaten people who will not do their bidding by overwhelming them financially and “ legally “.
Trump & his minions just want to accuse Trump's opponents, without regard to the facts. Maybe because Trump has been accused of the same offenses (& often found guilty), so that is part of his revenge on society.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. A legal way to take down this administration and the billionaire backers, is to prove they cheated in the election. As a former banker, the concept of having two mortgages listed with a primary residence is not unusual. Many people start off buying a home, often a multi family or condo, that is listed as their primary residence with a 15 or 30 year mortgage. 5 or 10 years later, let’s say, they find a larger home to either accommodate a growing family or perhaps increased income and get a mortgage on this new ‘primary’ home. They decide not to sell their original property but to rent it out, thus resulting in 2 primary residences. Not a scam but a common practice.
Thanks. I was wondering about that; your explanation answered my question. One is not required to renegotiate one's first primary residence mortgage when moving to another house, which is then one's primary residence.
This happens more often than you'd think. Folks often remortgage current home to build or rebuild a prospective new home.
Check out Mike Rogers, former Michigan congressman. He's running for Senate, again. He ran against Elissa Slotkin in 2024 ... was for all intents and purposes living out of state but registered as Michigan resident in White Lake property that does not have a home with certificate of occupancy filed.
The dude is a liar and a crook and we are fighting him again.
Well, her mortgages were both within the same year, so that might be more unusual. But it's not that crazy--she's an academic who splits her time between Ann Arbor and Atlanta.
My guess is she took out a home equity loan on her longtime Ann Arbor home—she moved there in 2005—to help finance the purchase of the Atlanta condo. Because this is where she lived at the time, the bank put it down as her primary residence by default. Clearly not fraud, and maybe not even a significant error, if the loan-to-value ratio was low enough that the lender would have offered the same terms regardless of whether that box was checked.
You said "So no." That's not just adding context. Everything they said could be correct and the two week timeline still be true. (The two week claim was actually in Pulte's tweet, it seems.)
Borrowers attest, but the forms are often pre-filled by the mortgage company, so it could still be the case that "the bank put it down as her primary residence by default."
I agree it's pretextual but I'm also interested in knowing to what degree, if any, she did anything wrong/bad/dodgy, etc. One reason is because, if she didn't even break any rules or misrepresent something, that would be a good talking point. Second, there was a Fed insider trading scandal, and presumably stronger rules around the appearance of conflict of interest, so I'm curious in general about how this might affect public trust in the Fed. Third, I'm interested in what does or does not fall within the Supreme Court's invented and vague doctrine that Fed Governors exclusively are immune to being fired by the president unless it is done for caise.
Exactly. The crime occurs only if they fail to file the appropriate registration with the local authority when use of the property changes for tax purposes.
And prior to the 2008 housing market collapse, people who bought a new house without a contingency of selling their current house, found themselves with two “primary residence” mortgages for longer than they expected. (Ask me how I know…)
“If you get in our way we will ruin your life.” That Mafia style intimidation, that Mafia style extortion play, is part of Trump's makeup. He is a criminal, through and through, as, apparently, are the majority of his appointments. And the congress knows this, and it is complicit. Holy god. America has elected Donnie Sick Grift to sit at the Resolute Desk. Shiver me timbers (for those who know that desk was made from the hull of a British ship the US rescued from Arctic ice). Am I sick at heart? You betcha.
Not to mention that nepo baby Pulte who made the initial accusation, paid people to follow him on Twitter as it then was. This 37-year old with a B.A to his name and no experience of government, lobbied Trump for the HUD Secretary of State's post. Even this ghastly administration balked at that. He got this agency.
Donnie's business - The tRump Organization is nothing but a high-end organized crime family. They have been defrauding banks, stiffing contractors, cheating on taxes at every level, for many years now. The 'organization' - I read back during tRump I - composed of about 500 shell corporations which constantly send each other inflated invoices to make money disappear. He is incredibly corrupt and it looks like the only book he may have ever actually read was 'The Godfather'.
Almost right. He's also read Mein Kampf (sp--me no speekee German), and maybe (but this is hard to believe given his basic illiteracy) The Prince (manual for dictators) by Machiavelli.
I read 'Mein Kampf' in my senior year German class... Donnie wouldn't make it through the first page, even if he understood German. Hitler liked 2-page sentences.
To be uncharacteristically fair to Trump, I didn't make it past the first page either. The writing was just... bad. Maybe it was the translation, but a lot of others who've actually made it through the whole thing seem to think the same.
Although the writing style is no worse than the average Trump speech.
Like tRump, Hitler would drone on and on. His speeches seemed interminable. Our teacher showed a movie of one.... I think hypnosis is a lot of their appeal to their bases.
Long before it was a problem at the federal level, the lifelong failure of NYC authorities to take any meaningful action against him was already a stunning indictment of American institutions. Trump should have been in jail long before he became a national name. And the reason he wasn't is that there are a million businessmen like him, whether they're actually tied to organized crime or simply have made a living acting just like it. Most of them just aren't as ambitious or lucky.
Yeah, Chris. And that's what sometimes wakes me in the wee hours. Maybe it means that in some ultimate cosmic way his election offers us a chance to recognize our 'shadow side' by proxy and redeem ourselves. Hope so.
You're so kind, and kindness helps. It's a recognition of the fact that we're all at risk, and vulnerable via our soft mammalian bodies. But not to worry. I have had a number of dogs over the course of a lifetime, and I have to confess that Ellie, a cocker mix mutt we adopted from a rescue shelter was my favorite. She was sick and tired from neglect and maltreatment when she sidled up to me at the place she'd been dropped off, along with what was probably her umpteenth litter of pups. While I was thinking about adopting one of them she snuck up behind me and laid her head on my shoulder with a long, shuddering sigh. I signed the papers and took her home. A couple hundred dollars of vet bills (including a spay) later she gradually turned into the most joyful and loving of dogs. But if anyone threatened me, she'd think nothing of going for his jugular. She's gone now, but her spirit still animates my stance in this world. I love and love to be loved, and I know who needs fending off and am fearless in defending the things and folk that I value, Gordon.
Oh if only he were actually Mafia ( I was going to type” Mafia boss” but realized that even organize crime thugs have their scruples) instead of sleeping in the White House he’d be sleeping with the fishes
“I don’t know what Lisa Cook is going to choose to do. It is a difficult situation for her, but today we have allegations but no facts,” Rosengren said Friday on CNBC’s “Money Movers.” “Until there’s some facts out, I don’t think people should draw any conclusion.”

Use/share this spreadsheet (bit.ly/Goodtrouble) as a resource to call/email/write members of Congress, the Cabinet and news organizations. Reach out to those in your own state, and those in a committee that fits your topic. Call. Write. Email. Protest. Unrelentingly. We deserve better ❤️🩹🤍💙
Why do you say that, other than to be demoralizing? There's a whole body of academic literature around Congressional responsiveness to constituent complaints. The finding, perhaps not surprisingly, is that they tend to care about constituent complaints.
You sound like such a happy positive person. Try lifting others up. I will continue to speak up and encourage others to.
I don’t think we’ll see many big waves (like a major MAGA Congress member changing their opinions), however I think we can cause little ripples. I’m thinking staff members who hear the same thing over and over via voicemail, phone calls, letter after letter, email after email - maybe they’ll be a little more receptive each time they hear from us. Maybe they’ll talk more about our talking points to friends and family, maybeeee they’ll vote differently. I think we can cause ripples to push news organizations to be more honest and maybe even a bit accusatory about what’s happening. As a collective, our volume matters. And, at the end of the day, if we just annoy and overwhelm some staffers working for people hurting the average American, I’m ok with that too 🙃
You don’t have to criticize them or get in their way to become a target. All that has to happen is that you have something they want, or someone doesn’t like you, or know something they want to keep hidden. People suppose that they will be safe with a red hat or an aligned religious affiliation. No one is safe without the protections of the Constitution and Bill of Rights for everyone.
I have a question. The business community seems kind of foolish to me, with the government taking a 10% stake in Intel, for buying into the notion that they would have lower taxes under trump. Isn’t this some kind of a tax?
Perhaps even more disturbing than the behavior you describe is that half the population is not bothered by it. Our political divide is indeed fundamental and will not improve. Worse, each side views the other with total contempt. It is high time for America to break up into independent countries.
Northeast and West Coast would be two obvious pieces. The rest could then become a Christian Nationalist state. Regions on the borders would have to decide which to join.
No, not unless “everyone” refers exclusively to people with the means to move to a new state/nation state. Who is going to fund the rescue of all the newly stranded non-MAGA people? What about the innocent children of the MAGA adults who do want to live in this new hellscape you’re advocating for?
Trump led the first violent attempt to overthrow the results of an election since the Civil War and thanks to our once-Supreme Court he got away with it. They abetted him in his criminal behavior and continue to do so. Every one of Trump's several hundred co-conspirators who were convicted of attacking congress in criminal proceedings, with many in jail, were quickly pardoned by Trump. A few are appointees in his administration.
He has made legal ethics into an oxymoron and surrounded himself with faux lawyers willing to do anything to please their master.
With all due respect, I believe you are overlooking the fact that by trowing her out, then naming the future head of the FED, he would now have 3 loyalists out of 7. That’s a great way to start stirring trouble, denunciations, etc.
There are only seven members of the board of governors. I read recently that two of them support lowering the interest rate. One governor just resigned and her replacement will be appointed by DonnyJon. If DonnyJon gets Lisa kicked out, that gives him four out of seven who will vote for lowering the rate.
Our Felon in Chief was convicted for lying about his assets in order to obtain better rates from banks. Basically, mortgage fraud. By our Felon in Chief's standard, he should resign.

How is that a reply to what Hans is saying? The timing isn't significant is their explanation.
You said "So no." That's not just adding context. Everything they said could be correct and the two week timeline still be true. (The two week claim was actually in Pulte's tweet, it seems.)

I disagree; it's one of the few tools we have and it takes very few minutes to do.
And, at the end of the day, if we just annoy and overwhelm some staffers working for people hurting the average American, I’m ok with that too 🙃
Based on what metric? Voters have the right and responsibility to speak to their representatives.
Represtatives who do not listen to the people they represent can and should be voted out of office.
This is the biggest civics session of our time, and negativity should be directed at the perpetrators.

We've been trying to get that lying SOS Chris Smith out of Congress for 20 years now.
It might not work if you have an ad blocker. No need to be rude.
Her crimes: being black, being a woman and being qualified - all anathema to the Trump mafia state.
YES! How is this not a tax? The idea that trump can inflict taxes he chooses on businesses he chooses is nuts.
Everybody will be happier that way…
How will that center Christian nationalist state finance itself? CA and NY, along with MA are the financial engines of the country.
And what Trump gets away with once ... he repeats.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Oups… Thanks for pointing this out… my mistake.
Clearly that’s the motive.
