Trump has totally lost it. Maybe Canada should rename Lake Superior "Lake Saskatchewan."

Oregon Larry's avatar

"The Great Canadian Lakes"!

NSAlito's avatar

I like their map that shows Lake Michigan renamed Lake Epstein.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

😂Awesome. Just awesome.😂

Paul Olmsted's avatar

Aren’t tomahawk missiles and Apache helicopters too Native American , they ought to be named Harp missiles and Natalie helicopters .

Henry Cohen's avatar

He doesn't name things for aides, no matter how much of a crush he has on them. He would name them Trump missiles and Trump helicopters.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

And have them all gold plated.

rmreddicks's avatar

Harpy missles and Natacoptoers? Oh, my. Turnips would be world would be all a'tremble. But I think Henry Cohen's correct.

I watched it, too. Very entertaining, very clever. I'm proud to be a Canadian.

I actually got tears in my eyes watching that clip....O Canada! You don't know how beloved you are by your neighbors to the south.

Trump should rename the Atlantic after himself and call it the Ocean of Ignorance.

Just want to make a plug for a movie about a woman whose words were sharp and effective. It's on YouTube and it's free: "Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins". It even features the commentary of one Paul Krugman. It's a great reminder of our right to free speech, even under duress.

Dian Allison's avatar

OMG! Molly Ivins? I LOVED her! She was brutally cut down in her prime. We need her now! 💕

LiverpoolFCfan's avatar

The movie made me laugh and cry. I miss her and boy could we use her wit and wisdom in these dark times.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

Andy Borowitz has some good stuff on his column about Molly Ivins, who was a treasure.

Sherry Sauerwine's avatar

Molly Ivins and Ann Richards - omigod what they’d be doing in Texas now.

It was nice to see and remember Ann Richards, who was also in the movie.

Molly Ivins was great.

Wow, I suddenly got a flashback to the Mountains of Ignorance Milo journeys through in The Phantom Tollbooth. The Terrible Trivium seems especially terrible now.

Laura's avatar

Why not rename the solar system! All things revolve around trump!

PipandJoe's avatar

Because he can't name them all Trump, unless he numbers them Trump 1, Trump 2, etc.

I guess he could charge a renaming fee in bitcoin if people want one named after themselves. Mars would probably be renamed Musk or Elon and Bezos might buy the moon for his wife, etc.

The Great Sandini's avatar

I guess Trump would name the sun after himself and the planets after his minions. But which one would be Uranus? Lotta competition for that one.

Sandra Nicht's avatar

hey, if Atlanta can have a multiplicity of roads called "Peachtree"...

CLR's avatar

The problem with Trump 1, Trump 2, etc., is that he has repeatedly demonstrated that he doesn't know how to count.

lt coleperson's avatar

How about… Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV. Unmemorable remnants to remain unnamed.

how about Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka, Barron…

Rarely does a narcissist care that much about their kids. In fact, unless they can bask in the limelight of a child's fame, and then take credit, they tend to be jealous of their own children if they get attention,, so no, one would assume it would dim his own light to have attention focused on his kids. Sure some can pay because it would be something they get from him and where they got it will always be linked to his power. Just my view.

Luanne Stevenson's avatar

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

lt coleperson's avatar

Hmmm. That might presume that Clockwork Orange has progressed to post-Galileo revolutionary theory.

Jim Brady's avatar

Then he would have to rename the sun.

PipandJoe's avatar

Does Trump even realize that when he renames these areas the Gulf of America and the Lake of America, that he is simply naming them after our shared continent(s) anyway?

People may say America for short, but we are the United States "of" America the "of" referring to the continent, in reality. The continent is also often referred to as 2 of them, North and South, in many places.

Unless he names them the Gulf and Lake of the United States, or rather, the United States of America, he is not actually even claiming them as ours.

So, it seems he thinks, in his immature way, that he is poking them in the eye and calling them names for not doing as he wants, when in reality, he is accidently sharing ownership in a broader sense naming them after a very large section of the globe.

Stupid is as stupid does.

However, whenever I type that, or call others "dumb", I tend to have done something rather dumb in the process - comeuppance I guess, but it still fits.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

It doesn't really matter though - he doesn't have the authority to name anything.

Frau Katze's avatar

I think the name changes hold for the US. Clearly he can’t control what other countries do.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

Only in his mind. It takes an act of congress to make it official.

Frau Katze's avatar

Google AI says he can order the federal government to use it.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

That's true, but only within the regime. He can't force either Congress or the SCOTUS to use it - not that he won't try of course.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

This confirms what I said. He can have his regime refer to "The Gulf of America" and "Lake Trumpkopf", but he can't make the rest of the world - or congress - recognize it. He can, of course, also coerce Google into displaying it on it's maps.

Any name changes established by EO will last only until the next (presumably Dem) administration. It takes an act of congress to make it official. Just like the decision to wage war - at least according to the constitution.

Don't forget that our southern neighbor is named the "United Mexican States" (Estados Unidos Mexicanos).

George Patterson's avatar

It's still part of North America.

pkidd's avatar

Yeah, good point!

lorenzo smerillo's avatar

Actually using 'America' he is honouring the Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci, a member of a noted bankimg family of the Tuscan city.

The cartographer Waldseemüller Latinized and made feminine Amerigo, on the model of Asia and Africa in 1507. But one cannot expect the grsndson of a Bavarian peasant to be cognisant of these facts.

craig's avatar

so, the US is named after an illegal italian immigrant...

lorenzo smerillo's avatar

No, the USA did not exist in the early 1500s, and Amerigo never set foot on any swamp which would later be subsumed into it. His explorations were in the Southern continent.

Mitch Rodman MA MD's avatar

Bavarian draft dodger. He emigrated to the US to find the success he couldn't achieve in Bavaria, failed again, and went back to Bavaria. There, he learned that he would be drafted, and skipped out to the US again. I understand the draft dodger gene skips a generation, although I didn't see any of Donnie’s kids volunteering.

Mitch Rodman MA MD's avatar

Far too conceptual for Trump’s deteriorating mentation!

M Q's avatar

The real Gulf of America is between Trump's ears.

PipandJoe's avatar

One can sail on the Ocean of Ignorance in any direction and still end up at the "Isle of Covfefe" so that seems about right.

Which makes drowning in ignorance a literal thing.

I hope all the American readers see how incredibly pathetic the Donald has become. What could be more ridiculous than trying to rename Lake Ontario? If this is the best shot Mango Mussolini has, this will be another face plant. Check around the Internet and you'll see he's already losing the humor (or should I say humour) war bigly.

Marliss Desens's avatar

Sigh. "Swamp" is a negative way of thinking about wetlands that serve useful purposes.

Can we find another word, such as trash heap?

Cornelius's avatar

Sure, but first explain to some people that they shouldn't drain the swamp but clean the trash heap.

Marliss Desens's avatar

I live in a state that is destroying wetlands, then cannot figure out why we are having floods.

Does the administration realize that the St. Lawrence Seaway is largely within Canadian territory?

Could this result in a similar situation to the Strait of Hormuz (sorry America)?

Or will the Canadians simply rename the Seaway as the Epstein Passage?

Les Peters's avatar

So that’s why suggestions to rename it the Strait of Our Moose started cropping up yesterday.

Susan Samuels's avatar

that's hilarious. I am still laughing, and will have to pass that one on.

Mark Wheeler's avatar

The Welland Canal, which enables freighters to bypass Niagara Falls on their voyage between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, is totally within and owned by Canada.

Susan Samuels's avatar

I am sure there is already a US-based conspiracy theory about Canada blocking the St. Lawrence Seaway. Oh, Trump could use that as an excuse to attack us.

Colin Peter Leach's avatar

The good news is that US Abraham Lincoln will not fit through the Welland Canal!

Anne Fletcher-Jones's avatar

But it doesn’t touch US territory, so how is it any of their business?

Susan Samuels's avatar

But, FYI: American trade relies heavily on both the St. Lawrence and Welland Canal to move goods lto and from the Atlantic.

Let's summarize the week: The Trump administration's attempt to say that Mark Carney is lying about the US changing the deal at the last minute fails to convince, because, as Trump himself admitted when questioned by CNN journalist Jim Sciutto, "That sounds like me." Spending political capital to sign an executive order to rename lake Ontario did change the conversation on social media. Unfortunately, it also creates an image of Trump fiddling while the US burns.

Stacy1946's avatar

Let me take the opportunity to apologize to a Canadian for everything this putz has done and tried to do to your country. An unusual thing happened this week in WV. Neither Capito nor Moore, both running for reelection to the senate and house, mentioned Trump in their newsletters. This is a considerable departure from the "all hails" that they typically include.
