The EU might also have more opportunities to grow. The smaller states, like the Baltics for example, have been economic miracles, especially in terms of GDP growth, whereas the states that are doing poorly in the US just keep falling behind.

As an American who has been living in the UK for over a decade and has close family in Germany and Austria, I appreciate that Europeans are focused on quality of life rather than the quantity (and size) of things consumed or acquired. The bread really does say it all! 😆 But so does buying fewer tangible goods that are better quality and last longer. There is a huge ‘repair and reuse’ culture here that deters us from throwing things into landfill so the world will last longer. Oh, and let’s not forget the free healthcare. So ‘winning’ is not about producing more goods or higher bank balances. Are you healthy and happy? Do you have what you need? Are you excited about the culture and nature and people around you? That’s quality of life.
